The essentials
Start with the vehicle identity and a labelled set of photos. Show the complete part, every visible marking, connectors, mounting points and relevant dimensions. State where the part is fitted and the quantity required. These details create a reviewable sourcing request even when the OE number is unknown.
THE PROCESS
Work through the details
Identify the vehicle.
Record the make, exact model, model year, engine code and full chassis or frame code where available. Include the original sales market when you know it.
Photograph the complete part.
Use clear light and a plain background. Show the complete part from more than one angle before taking close-ups. Keep a ruler or scale visible when size is difficult to judge.
Capture identification details.
Photograph labels, stamped numbers, connector faces, mounting holes, hose or pipe positions and any remaining packaging. Do not crop away the surrounding shape needed to understand the part.
State position and measurements.
Write front or rear, left or right, upper or lower and the location on the vehicle. Add the dimensions that distinguish the component, including hole spacing, shaft or spline details where relevant.
Label the request.
Give the item a simple ID such as ITEM-01. Use the same ID in the parts list and photo filenames, add the required quantity and mark the OE reference “unknown”.

Can a photo guarantee the correct part?
No. Photos help describe and narrow the request, while vehicle details, measurements and references still need review.
What if the part is still installed on the vehicle?
Photograph the installed position, visible connectors and mountings, then add the vehicle and component-location details. Do not remove a safety-critical component solely to take a photo.
Can I send several unknown parts together?
Yes. Give each part a separate item ID, description, quantity and matching group of photos.
